Day 1 - Broadcast media

Hello my name is Dean Smith. I have just started my media broadcast degree at Weston college, through Bath university. I have been anticipating this course for the past 2 years. I originally studied my first year (A-levels) at Bridgwater college. Then I continued my second year of my media A-level at Weston sixth form. I enjoyed the course, from the written work, to the editing and practical. I slo studied ICT, Photography and communications. Here are some photos i have done.

I have had two jobs since June 2006, my first being a waiter at The Old Inn pub in Hutton, Weston-super-Mare, for about 14 months, then i changed my job to working at McDonald's restaurants, not the ideal job for me, but have recently been in contact with star radio. and a position looks hopeful at the moment.

I have been always been interested in films, T.V. and radio, and often look at the media more critically the last 2 years. I would pick up different techniques that i thought were effective quite often. I am interested in all types of media, and find it hard to narrow down what aspect of media I would like to undertake in the future. Hopefully this course will open the world to different aspects of media, a get a feel for a job in the media via work experience, and gain some good connections.

I am very interested in how conventions within genre evolve to the present audience as new generations bring new things. I enjoy films that are unique, like " into the wild" and produce originality of vision. I also enjoy comedy and the good old conventional horror. I also enjoy things that take people by surprise, and maybe shock certain people.

Here is a trailer from "Into the wild"

I like coming up with new ideas, and wouldn’t mind a attempt script writing. since I was little I would write short stories in my own time, and I also made a 1 hour movie when I was 10 with a friend, but obviously without the aid of editing software (final cut pro). When I first used the editing software I was able to blend the footage in the way I saw it played out in my head, and quite enjoyed it as part of the music video project in A2 media. This required a great deal of editing skills.

This is my music video:
